During an address this past weekend at Hampshire College, Al Gore took a swipe at “some talk radio hosts” who don’t believe in human-caused global warming. Well, seeing that I:
- am the only talk radio guy in the country with a Certification from the American Meteorological Society (I was a former, award-winning TV meteorologist)
- am the author of a bestseller, Climategate, in which I pen a damning exposé of Mr. Gore’s life and career
- have just released Eco-Tyranny, where I further expose Gore’s un-American missives
- utilize the URL DebateMeAlGore.com…
I’m guessing Al might be talking about me.
For an excellent dose of reality, click here to read the pertinent excerpt from Gore’s address, interspersed with my comments.
The science is clear that human activity contributes at least 30% to the rising global mean temperature. Meteorologists are trained in understanding and predicting the weather. It does not make you an expert on climate.
Climatologists have become a clique dominated by utopians, socialists, and communists.
I don’t care what their politics or personal beliefs are. Based on the peer reviewed articles in Science and other reputable science journals, it is clear that we are in a warming cycle, based on the mean global temperature rise in the last 10,000 – 12,000 years. Based on the amount of CO2 released since about 1850 and the amount of forest clearing and other land use changes, theoretical predictions made in 1980 are being validated. Climate models cannot account for the temperature change that has been observed without taking human activity into account.
Their personal beliefs drive their methodology. You can’t come to science with presuppositions. By the way, climatologists are wannabe meteorologists who can’t forecast the weather. Quote me.
That’s funny but not true. Climatology is a different branch of science, as I’m sure you know.
Although it is true that scientists do not operate in a vacuum, good scientists who follow the scientific method are data driven. They are not primarily driven by any preconceptions. Measurements made on Mauna Loa of the CO2 concentration for the last 50+ years are not driven by socialist philosophy. The measurements are just facts. Arrhenius was the first scientist to realize that CO2 and other gasses could have a warming effect on the Earth’s atmosphere. It was based on E-M theory and knowledge of the atmosphere. It’s a matter of thermodynamics and physics.
